ISC and RICeST Signs MOU with the Indonesian University of Araniri
In collaboration with the Iranian scientific advisor in South-East Asia, a memorandum of understanding was signed for scientific cooperation between ISC/RICeST and the Indonesian University of Araniri in Shiraz.
This Memorandum of Understanding was signed at the closing ceremony of a series of workshops on "Increasing the Impact of Research: Practical Practices for Universities and Research Institutions" targeting Southeast Asian experts.
One of the issues raised in this memorandum is the joint research, collaboration in the development of academic libraries, exchanging scientific publications, faculty and student exchange programs, and the establishment of a branch of RICeST and ISC at the University of Araniri.
In this two-day workshop delegations from Indonesia and Malaysia participated. The participants included officials from the Indonesian Ministry of religious affairs, some of Indonesian and Malaysian universities, as well as editors-in-chief of research-scientific journals.
The workshop series were set up to operationalize a memorandum of cooperation that was previously signed between ISC and Malaysian universities, as well as Indonesia's Ministry of Sciences and Religious Affairs.
The workshops were presented in three panels. On the first day, two panels were presented, including topics like “the rules for indexing publications in ISC”, “new indexing methods for publications”, “how to use ISC databases” and familiarity with ISI and Scopus databases.
The third panel on the second day included strategies for improving the status of universities, consisting of sub-topics like “familiarization with the world ranking systems, i.e. Times and QS”, “analyzing the current status of universities and research institutions in South-East Asia”, comparing scientific production of Islamic countries to the global community, scientific impact, scientific advancement, citation promotion techniques, and scientific compilation topics.
The purpose of the workshops was to increase the quality of publications as well as the production of science among Islamic countries.
Increasing the rank of journals and universities in Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as familiarity with qualitative parameters contributing to promotion of the scientific status of countries, were among the topics discussed in the two-day workshop.
Since increasing the effectiveness or quality of research is considered to be one of the most important issues for universities and research institutions, in this workshop series, the ways of improving the level of scientific efficiency in various technological, innovative, social, economic and academic dimensions were also presented.
While submitting her appreciations to ISC and RICeST for holding such a workshop, Dr. Noor Hazlina Ahmad, Director of the Asian Academy of Management at USM, Malaysia, mentioned the role of this database in promoting the quality of research and the creation of a continuous scientific network throughout the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
She asserted that introduction of globalization solutions for scientific products and introduction of universities, publications, writers, and scientific excellence of the Islamic world by ISC would contribute to sound scientific policy-making and fruitful cooperation between universities and scientists in various fields of OIC.
She also listed several possible areas of co-operation with ISC, as well as RICeST. Among these, collaboration on joint international scientific conferences, publication of books, and holding scientific workshops for Islamic countries were mentioned as some key areas.
Dr. Arsal Salim, Director of Islamic Higher Education at the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, also mentioned that ISC with its effective decision-making tools was beneficial to a wide range of users, including universities and research institutions, publishers, faculty members, researchers, and analysts within the field of scientometrics. He appreciated ISC’s effort for promotion of the status of researchers and universities in OIC countries.
